The local media has referred to Andy as the "bad boy" of college planning because he is blunt, outspoken and openly critical of runaway college costs, how the college financial aid system really works, and the abysmal lack of guidance families and college-bound teens receive. 

Along with Peter "College Pete" Ratzan, Andy co-hosts the "College Planning Power Hour" on 1400 WFTL Sportsradio, ESPN, each Sunday morning at 10:00 am.  He writes a monthly college planning column for a local magazine, and co-authored "The 'Never Pay Retail for College' Financial Aid Maximization System" with Ratzan.

Formerly a practicing attorney (corporate and securities law) in New York and Florida, Andy is no stranger to crippling high rate, high fee student loans. Although he worked his way through his undergraduate (Wesleyan University) and law school (St. John’s University), as a janitor, bartender and any other work he could find, he still ended up with more than $100,000 in burdensome, high payment loans…despite receiving a smattering of need-based scholarships and grants (he was not a member of the “Silver Spoon Club)! 

Being a decent enough athlete to make the basketball team at Wesleyan helped Andy get in, and pay for a colle he would not have otherwise attended.

After Andy graduated, it was not always possible to make his loan payments on time for the first few years out of school.  The predictable result:  poor credit, difficulty making ends meet and stress.  This is the intensely personal reason why college planning became a passion for Andy, and why he vowed that his own children will go to college with no debt! It’s cliché, but had he known then what he knows now…

Now, the proud parents of four children (not a misprint!), Andy and his wife Pearl live and work in Weston and are active members of the community. Pearl, a graduate of Cornell University, is involved with the Indian Trace PTA and Temple D'or Dorim.  Andy is a member of the Advisory Board of the West Broward Family YMCA and coaches numerous youth sports for his overscheduled children.

A "serial" entrepreneur, Andy also owns Blackacre Mortgage, a mortgage brokerage business and Lockwood Marketing, a growing markeing and management consulting practice with more than 200 small business owner clients across the country, including California, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Michigan, Washington, Massachusetts, Georgia, North Carolina, Idaho and Arizona, among others.  He can be reached at 954.659.1234 ext. 201.
